The 2014 Israel Democracy Index by Tamar Hermann shows a young nation still struggling with issues of social and economic equality.
This is not surprising. America, at 238 years old is still wrestling with many of the same issues.
What may come as a surprise to many is the response to " How proud are you to be an Israeli?"
Over 85% of Israeli Jews were proud to be Israeli.
65 % of Israeli Arabs were also proud to be Israeli.
While its significantly less than the Israeli total, it also represents a substantial number of the responders.
Israel Democracy Institute describes itself as "independent,
non-partisan think-and-do tank dedicated to strengthening the foundations of
Israeli democracy. IDI supports Israel’s elected officials, civil servants, and
opinion leaders by developing policy solutions in the realms of political
reform, democratic values, social cohesion, and religion and state."
