Chutzpah Re-defined. SJP demands that JVP teach workshops on anti-Semitism at UC Davis.

UC Davis has  the ignoble distinction of being on the top ten list of antisemitic universities in America.  Over the years, events put on by Jewish organizations have been disrupted  There has been anti-Semitic graffiti and vandalism on campus. Anti-Semitic flyers  have been distributed on campus. Swastikas were painted on a Jewish fraternity house.

Last year, Jewish student leaders and UC Davis officials met with the intention of improving campus climate for Jewish students  and combating antisemitism. The administration agreed to  host a town hall and a series of workshops with the ADL.

Following outcry from Students for Justice in Palestine, the workshops were never held. An SJP petition , with 149 signatures was presented , with the demand that Jewish Voice for Peace instead conduct the workshops.

From the Daily Aggie

Following the submission of a petition from Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) against the ADL workshops, however, none of the planned ADL-hosted workshops have presently been scheduled, according to Associate Vice Chancellor Sheri Atkinson.

In early December, Chancellor May mentioned in an interview with The California Aggie the mutually-agreed upon commitments made with Jewish students and administrators.

“We came up with a series of things we were going to do, including a town hall and some training from the ADL to improve the campus climate,” he said at the time. “I think after that meeting, everyone came away feeling like we were in a partnership mode rather than an adversarial mode.”

It is now unclear whether the university plans to follow through on this commitment in the near future.

A recent editorial in the UC Davis student run paper, the Daily Aggie called the University officials out on their failure to satisfactorily address the issue of antisemitism, writing

Well-intentioned groups must also understand that anti-Semitism exists on both the right and the left — in both explicit and implicit forms. Certain leftist groups have historically excluded Jews from liberal spaces because of actual or assumed Zionist ideologies. Anti-Semitism is often wrongly delegitimized. Like any other reprehensible form of discrimination, this form of hatred must be unequivocally and unilaterally condemned and denounced by university and student leaders.
It is undeniable that anti-Semitism is present on campus and in the Davis community. This is not a solitary incident and should not be treated as such. Discrimination in this form requires and deserves both short-term and long-term action. The campus community must know that anti-Semitism of any kind will not be tolerated.

Stanford's Hamzeh Daoud physically threatens Zionist students.

Writing on his Facebook page, Hamzeh Daoud , a member of Stanford's Students for Justice in Palestine and a former University Senator  declared  "i'm going to physically fight zionists on campus next year".

The Stanford College Republicans responded to this call for violence by asking for the University to take disciplinary action against Daoud.

SCR is disgusted by a threat of violence issued by Hamzeh Daoud, a rising junior at Stanford University, toward pro-Israel students. Daoud, who is active in Stanford Students for Justice in Palestine, a former ASSU Undergraduate Senator (Hamzeh Daoud for ASSU Senate), and who will be a Residential Assistant in one of Stanford’s dormitories in the 2018-2019 school year, vowed on his personal Facebook page to “physically fight zionists on campus next year.” Threatening to assault other students who hold a different point of view is anathema to a free society and any kind of education, let alone the operation of the premier research university in the world.

Stanford should take disciplinary action against Mr. Daoud and SCR demands that Stanford terminate Daoud’s position as a Residential Assistant in the Norcliffe dormitory immediately. Mr. Daoud’s statements reveal him to be a danger to the safety of students on Stanford’s campus, and such an individual should never be put in any position of authority over other students, particularly in a dormitory that includes freshmen. Moreover, while we are disturbed by Hamzeh Daoud’s statements, we find it unsurprising that a member of SJP, an organization with financial ties to terrorist affiliates, would issue a call to violence against pro-Israel student
s.

After his words were exposed by the Campus Republicans, Daoud changed his post

SJP Santa Cruz advocates gun violence and armed resistance

While young people across the country are  mobilizing to condemn gun violence, Students for Justice in Palestine Santa Cruz are taking a different route.  This deeply disturbing post advocating for "armed resistance" recently appeared on the  Santa Cruz SJP chapter Facebook page.

Students for Justice in Palestine is not now, nor have they ever been, a peace group.

UPDATE
The UC Santa Barbara chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine has an identical posting on their Facebook page, indicating at the very least collusion between the campus chapters of the extremist group

Day of Action for Palestine at UC Berkeley. A photo essay

Via Emunah:

Today was the  Day of Action for Palestine at UC Berkeley.  And by "action", apparently, they meant screaming angry words into a microphone.

Anti-Israel activists from on campus and off gathered in Sproul Plaza.

Marina Gutierrez and the map that lies
Hassan Fouda is a professional Israel hater. Rusty Bates sells bumper stickers on Telegraph Ave. They both took time off from their busy schedules to protest the only democracy in the Middle East

The SJP fundraising booth stood empty.  No one was buying what they were selling.

Photo from Tikvah- Students for Israel
Tikvah, Bears for Israel, and even representatives from J street countered the event with a silent protest , steadfastly ignoring provocations from the other side.

From the Algemeiner

Josh Woznica, president of Bears for Israel, said that his group and fellow pro-Israel organization Tikvah are “coming together for the first time to present a strong, united front” against Thursday’s “International Day of Action for Palestine” demonstration. In previous years, he said, students at these rallies have gone so far as to openly call for terrorism against the Jewish state.

Woznica said that the counter-protest, which he expects will be attended by over 100 people, is not aimed at anti-Israel students, but rather at the “70 percent who pass by and don’t know anything about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Our intent is to have a silent protest opposing the anti-Israel messaging of the ‘Day of Action,’ highlighting the importance of academic freedom and ending the double standard applied to Israel. We are not trying to convince the other side. We want the students to see there is another perspective. Anti-Israel groups scream and chant really catchy slogans, such as, ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,’ and present a false picture of what is happening in Israel. Our goal is to expose this.”

The people united will never be defeated.  It was particularly gratifying to see all the pro-Israel students working together to counter intolerance at UC Berkeley.

Time for (another) SJP public tantrum

A quarter million are dead in Syria. The entire region has erupted in chaos. But its October, and its time for the context be damned Students for Justice in Palestine  at U.C. Berkeley's  "But  pay attention to MEEEEEE"  very public tantrum.

We can expect the rhetoric of eternal victimhood, incendiary chants, and maybe a die-in or two.

*****

This will be the second year Cheryl Davila is speaking at this event. Cheryl gained notoriety for hijacking the agenda of the Berkeley Human Welfare Commission for nearly a full year to push a divestment initiative, neglecting the poor of Berkeley in the process. Cheryl is now running for Berkeley City council from District 2, and has been looking towards SJP for some quid pro quo.

The people of Berkeley should know better to elect a councilperson beholden to such extremist special interests.

Pro-Israel groups are mobilizing as well, to counter the demonization and inflammatory rhetoric of the group that is commonly dubbed "Students for Just us in Palestine".

This should be interesting.

Berkeley Students for Justice in Palestine: Openly supporting terror

Open support for terrorists and Jew-haters. That's what we've come to expect from Students for Justice in Palestine.

This week, SJP at UC Berkeley shared a link on their Facebook page to a Gofundme  account, raising money for Ali Jiddah, a  terrorist convicted of a 1968 bombing in Jerusalem.

Ali Jiddah served 17 years in an Israeli prison after the bombs he planted on Strauss Street in downtown Jerusalem exploded,  injuring nine Israelis.  His cousin Mahmoud  served 17 years for a similar attack. In 1985, both were released in a prisoner swap

Incidentally,  rather than being "indigenous"  Al Jiddah's father is from Chad, and is member of the Salamat tribe.

SJP has a long ignoble history of lionizing convicted terrorists and overlooking their crimes against the Jewish people. Their actions have contributed to a hostile climate on campus for Jews, Israelis and for all legitimate peace activists.

Pass the Popcorn: Stanford SJP cancels Nakba tour because of Alison Weir's participation

Paul Larudee has friends in all the wrong places. He's hobnobbed with Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. He sat cheering in the audience while fellow flotidiot Ken O'Keefe regaled the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists with fake Talmud quotes and blood libel. And he is a vocal supporter and promoter of white supremacist Alison Weir.

According to Paul,  Stanford Students for Just Us in Palestine cancelled a presentation on the so-called Nakba at the eleventh hour because of Alison Weir's participation. The talk was arranged by the Free Palestine Movement, the ISM – Northern California and the al-Awda Palestine right to Return Coalition.

Yep. Alison Weir is so caustic, so toxic, she's been rejected by SJP.  Ponder that, and pass the popcorn.

From Paul

Last night, Mariam Fathalla and Amena Elashkar were scheduled to speak at Stanford University, sponsored by Students for Justice in Palestine. The previous day, I had asked Alison Weir, who has been giving talks on Palestine for 15 years all over the country, to meet with Amena and give her advice on reaching American audiences since this is Amena's first trip to the U.S. It was an excellent, fruitful meeting.
I then said it would be valuable if Alison could hear Amena's presentation to see if she would have any suggestions. Alison is extremely busy but agreed to come down to Stanford with us for that purpose.
When Alison learned we did not yet have any written materials along to provide the audience, she brought some along with her for us to use and also gave us some of her books that we could sell to help raise money for the tour. We had already discussed that IAK would supply their excellent written materials for the tour.
We had no idea that Alison would turn out to be an issue, or that some members of the Stanford SJP would object to what Amena might wish to say.  We view Alison as an extremely committed and popular antiracist writer, speaker, and activist, and people even follow her work in refugee camps in Lebanon.  We know that some groups oppose her and If Americans Knew, but we also think that most do not, and that in any case this should not be an issue in the Nakba Tour.  Alison, however, is not not one of the national organizers of the tour, and she was not intended to be one of the speakers or to have any role in the presentation at Stanford. She was simply there as a favor to us, as described above.
However, some members of the SJP immediately objected to Alison's presence, perhaps assuming she was going to speak, and also to the presence of her book and the If Americans Knew materials. We immediately explained that Alison was not to be a speaker and was just there to sit in the audience and that we had invited her to come with us. We also agreed to remove the books, but said we were disturbed that they also wished to censor the materials we could make available on our own tour. In all my years of activism, I've never heard of such a thing.

Amena then began discussing the situation with the students, and was extremely upset when they told her that she could not speak truthfully about her feelings and the feelings of the thousands of dispossessed Palestinian refugees living in camps about their situation, about the Nakba, and about whether or not Israel has "the right to exist" that Israel partisans claim.  This was not an issue at the two previous talks.

When it became clear that they wished Amena to censor her excellent talk, she refused to do so and the event was canceled.

We think it is extremely important that people hear from Amena and Mariam. They represent millions of Palestinian refugees whose rights and views have been trampled upon and who are often ignored. Thank you for helping us bring their voice to the discussion. It is long past time that they are heard.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Paul Larudee, Tour Coordinator

UPDATE:

Stanford SJP responds, via their Facebook page

On Wednesday April 7, Stanford Students for Justice in Palestine decided to cancel our event “The Exiled Palestinians.” This was due to the presence of Alison Weir, who has openly expressed anti-Semitic sentiments. Although she was not invited, Ms. Weir came to our event with the purpose of selling copies of her book and distributing materials promoting her personal website. When asked to remove her materials, she eventually removed her books but left other materials advertising her website. We expressed our discomfort with her materials as well as her presence at our event given that she claimed to be associated with the event, but she refused to leave....

We are sorry that we could not host this event as an opportunity to hear Palestinian voices, however we remain committed to making sure that our spaces do not play host to individuals who advance white supremacist discourses.

In the  "Comments" section, local anti-Israel activist Jane Jewell blames this little family spat on (wait for it....) the "Zionists", writing:

Don't be too hard on the Stanford students. They are clearly being used. They are young adults, with their whole lives ahead of them, looking for a good job when they leave university to start them off on their careers. Many Zionists have a lot of money and power when it comes to helping students get on the first rung of their career ladder. In fact, Alison Weir's book, Against Our Better Judgment, describes their colossal influence in this country. At all costs, students must not be given the opportunity to read this outstanding little book. I would not be at all surprised if one of them was approached by some behind the scenes Zionist with a comment like, "you are looking for a job in law when you leave here, isn't that right? You don't want to be associating with people like Weir, or your chances may not be so good."

In fact, I would put my money on it. Otherwise, why else would an organisation supposed to be supporting Palestine, cancel speakers about the Nakba? It would be like a Jewish organisation refusing to have a holocaust survivor speak.

This is the only explanation of why the students, supposedly for Justice in Palestine, would cancel a speaker on the Nakba.

Tikvah: Students for Israel at UC Berkeley: The Tables Turned

The precious wildflowers of  UC Berkeley's Students for Justice in Palestine had originally planned a "die-in" for Israeli Apartheid Week, but postponed it because of the weather.

The pursuit of lofty goals such as justice are best left for sunshine and clear skies, after all. You might get dirty, otherwise.

On Thursday, March 31, a handful of  Berkeley SJP students, accompanied by a few community activists took to the streets of Berkeley to block traffic and shout vague platitudes at pedestrians and passing vehicles.

Students for Justice in Palestine is unsurprisingly at home in both the physical and the metaphorical gutter.

Tikvah, Students for Israel at UC Berkeley was ready for them.

Berkeley SJP: Blocking Traffic for Peace, Love and Understanding

You may want to avoid downtown Berkeley on Wednesday, March 9. If you need to go to a doctors appointment, or you need to pick up a youngster at childcare, you may want to chose a different route. UC Berkeley's Students for Just Us in Palestine is taking their message of hate and intolerance to the streets

From SJP:

We are dying-in and marching in solidarity with all Palestinians subjected to Israeli violence. Our action seeks to represent visually the people who have shed blood and tears at Israel's hands in the West Bank, in Jerusalem, in Gaza, and worldwide

We will convene at 2 at a location TBD between UC Berkeley campus and the downtown Berkeley BART station. Participants should be wearing a red shirt.

Once organized we will take up our initial positions at an intersection in downtown Berkeley. At a predetermined signal, designated protesters walk into the intersection. At another signal, designated protesters will drop to the ground and one participant will briefly speak explaining our purpose. We will then march to a second intersection on campus where we will repeat the die-in. We will be chanting slogans and rallying through campus. Everyone is encouraged to march with us as a singular unit toward our second location.

Finally, we will reassemble on the steps of Sproul Plaza where reps from different organizations will speak. Intersectionality and cross-movement solidarity are central to SJP's mission--we see the connections between struggles and are motivated to work closely with organizations of similar interest and intent.

There will be different roles for different groups of people: actual "dying", holding signs, distributing info sheets.

UC Berkeley Responds to Hate

From Rabbi Adam Naftalin-Kelman, Executive Director, Berkeley Hillel

...yesterday Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) organized an ‘International Day of Action.’  The protest occurred on the steps of Sproul Plaza.  Being out there for two hours was incredibly difficult to see and hear.  To hear students yell their support for an Intifada was gut wrenching and emotional for me, Berkeley Hillel staff and Jewish students.

For many students, this was their first encounter with others who do not share their strong love for Israel.  What did make me proud was to see so many Jewish students who love Israel out there on Sproul, containing their emotion, holding up Israeli flags and signs, and showing their love and support of Israelis and the Jewish people.

Special thanks go out to Bears For Israel and Tikvah: Students for Israel for their leadership in organizing a thoughtful and important counter message.  In addition to the students’ leadership, the caring nature of Berkeley Hillel’s Jewish Agency Shlichah, Dror Stein’s leadership and love for Israel helped the student leaders along with so many Jewish students deal with the difficult event.  Jewish students that walked by were appreciative of the work they did.  Their leadership was a beautiful example for all of us.  They conducted themselves with restraint and maturity that would make Am Yisrael proud.  When confronted with difficult individuals or conversations, they respectfully engaged with them without escalating the situation.  While I felt such pain and sadness when I read SJP’s signs and when I heard their chants, at the same time, I gained such strength and was full of pride to be a Jew and lover of Israel, thanks to the leadership and commitment of the students.

Slap on the wrist for Berkeley SJP

In direct violation of campus policy, UC Berkeley's Students for Justice in Palestine distributed several hundred fake eviction notices under the doors in Unit 2 during "Israel Apartheid Week".  Its the same tired old tactic we've seen for years by a group desperate to be noticed.

Via the Daily Cal
“We do not allow any solicitations out of respect for the students residing there,” said Adam Ratliff, spokesperson for the campus’ Division of Student Affairs, in an email. He said he is not aware of any planned response to SJP for breaching dormitory policy.

No, there was no consequence to this breach of the Code of Student Conduct. Yet again,  the spoiled children of SJP  have been allowed to flagrantly violate campus rules with impunity by campus administrators too spineless to endorse their own guidelines.

Israel Apartheid Week Comes to Berkeley

Yawn.

Its Israel apartheid Week” at UC Berkeley, and Students for Just Us in Palestine (SJP)  just can’t seem to think beyond the box, resorting to the same tired techniques to spread their demonization of Israel.

Yep. Mock-check points and mock-eviction notices.

In direct violation of campus policy SJP members distributed several hundred fake eviction notices under the doors in Unit 2, except for one floor, where a resident advisor barred their entry. (SJP described the incident as " the interruption of a Resident Advisor prevented us from exercising our right to free expression.")
Via the Daily Cal
“We do not allow any solicitations out of respect for the students residing there,” said Adam Ratliff, spokesperson for the campus’ Division of Student Affairs, in an email. He said he is not aware of any planned response to SJP for breaching dormitory policy.

The club also left an eviction notice in Chancellor Nicholas Dirks’ mailbox.

The group also staged a checkpoint at a mock security barrier at Sather Gate, that was largely ignored by the students hurrying to classes.  A bomb was painted on  the barrier, along with the word "resistance"

The barrier  also features a tribute to unrepentant Jew-murderer Rasmea Odeh.  Both visual images provided a  horrifyingly disturbing glorification of violence from the privileged students at Cal.

SJP's exercise in demonization was supported financially by a variety of equally extremist groups, including JVP, IJAN and the AROC

Anti-Israel activists shuting down free speech on campus

From the facebook page of the San Joaquin Delta community College District Police Department

On 11/20/14 at approximately 5:30 p.m. an unknown race male entered the Stockton campus of San Joaquin Delta College and defaced approximately 12 posters advertising an upcoming event. The posters were placed by the Christians United for Israel Club.

The male who did the defacing was wearing a grey beanie, dark sweatshirt, grey pants, black backpack and black shoes.

Vandalism. Shutting down free speech on campus.  Where have we seen this before?

At Cal Berkeley,  Kumars Salehi, tweeting from the  Berkeley SJP account boasted of his role in covering up  posted material placed by other student groups.

Anti-Israel groups on California campus have become increasingly ruthless, in both their brazen tactics and their extremist rhetoric. This is what pro-Israel students are facing now.

JVP and SJP. Peas in a pod.

Students for Justice in Palestine has been called "Hamas on Campus". It was  founded by radical Islamic leader Hatem Bazian, who once infamously called for an "Intifada" in America.

In UCLA the membership of Jewish Voice for Peace overlaps that of Students for Justice in Palestine enough, that SJP promotes JVP meetings.

Jewish Voice for Peace has described itself as the "Jewish" wing of the Palestinian solidarity movement, after all, and claims it is guided by "Jewish" values.

Hamas kills suspected collaborators

These are not "Jewish Values".

Enough said.

International Day of Action Against Israel, UC Berkeley: A photo essay

Today was the "Day of Action" against Israel on the University of California at Berkeley campus. The Mulim Students Association and Students for Just Us in Palestine shrieked "from the River to the Sea", and "We support the Intifada"  They bolstered their numbers with career anti-Israel activists from the community, but they were largely ignored by the students hurrying off to Top Dog for lunch

Lunch beats abject insanity any day.

The students of SJP made it perfectly clear that ALL of Israel was occupied territory to them, and  no, this had nothing to do with the territory acquired during the 6 day war

The student group Tikvah: Students for Israel gathered in quiet dignity, holding signs urging tolerance,  freedom and  dialog.

Some students prayed
Others held a teach-in.

This girl gets it.

 And this one doesn't

(Thanks to  DS and FM for the photos)

Thanks to Tikvah, students for Israel at UC Berkeley for maintaining your dignity, composure and civility in the face of such ugliness and provocation.

Students for Justice in Palestine: promoting hate on campus

September 23, 2014 has been proclaimed by Hatem Bazian as an "International day of Action" against Israel. Bazian,  who once infamously called for an "intifada" in America, was a founder of Students for Justice in Palestine, the group that will be spring boarding  the "Day of Action"

Students for Justice in Palestine, also known as SJP, or more popularly as Students for Just us in Palestine has a long history of threatening pro-Israel activists, shouting down free speech, and intimidating those who disagree with them. This year, they sport free legal protection for their rights, while they run roughshod over everyone elses

The comically named Center for Constitutional Rights, the Palestinian Solidarity Legal Support Group, and the National Lawyers Guild  have joined together to cover for their bad behavior.

Roz Rothstein, founder of the educational organization StandWithUs has documented  the hateful intolerance of SJP in the Times of Israel.

  • In February 2014 SJP violated the free speech rights of two Israelis at a pro-Israel event at Cal Poly Pomona. It brought professional anti-Israel activists and students from other schools to shout the speakers down, preventing them from making their presentations and robbing audience members of the opportunity to hear Israeli perspectives on the conflict.
  • When SJP brought divestment campaigns to the University of Michigan and other campuses, numerous Jewish students and members of student governments were subjected to threats, hate speech, and other forms of intimidation.
  • At UC Irvine and San Francisco State University (SFSU), SJP disrupted Israel Independence Day celebrations. Its members attempted to shout down pro-Israel student speakers at SFSU, physically pushed people away from informational booths, and assaulted three Jewish students at Irvine.
  • UCLA’s SJP chapter employed an especially sophisticated intimidation tactic, filing judicial complaints against two student senators who had gone on sponsored educational trips to Israel.
  • Temple SJP is currently being investigated because a student associated with the group hit a pro-Israel student in the face during Welcome Week.
  • SJP at Loyola University of Chicago is currently being investigated for harassing Hillel students and blocking their Birthright Israel informational table.

In all of these instances, SJP demonstrated its total disregard for freedom of speech, its eagerness to silence pro-Israel voices, and its desire to prevent uninformed students from hearing or seeing Israel’s side of the story.

No one expects September 23 to be any different.

JVP Attempts to get its Foot in the Door at UCLA

Jewish Voice for Peace is desperately trying to expand its reach into college campuses. If you were JVP and were anxiously trying to scrap a foothold into UCLA, where would you do your recruiting?

Yep.  You guessed it. The group most compatible with JVP's narrow focus is none other than Students for Justice in Palestine.

The Students for Justice in Palestine website is now promoting and recruiting for Jewish voice for Peace members- among its own ranks. Adding insult to injury, their meeting place of choice is Hillel's own kosher cafe.

And again, in glorious close-up

Jewish Voice for Peace is attempting to create a subset of SJP members to provide cover and legitimacy when the antisemitism of the SJP's agenda is exposed..  And yes, denying the Jewish people the right to self determination is anti-Semitic.

We've seen this phenomenon before . Its been dubbed "Jew-washing"

From the Jewish press

"There is nothing heroic or brave about Jews giving a “kosher hechsher” to movements and ideologies such as BDS that seek to undermine the right of the Jewish people to sovereign equality.  Let us call this activity by its rightful name: Jew-washing, and give priority to countering strategically and consistently its deceitful methods and destructive intent."
