Elephants in Israel protecting their young from rocket attacks

Filmed last week Ramat Gan Safari zoo, elephants instinctively
reacted to the bombings and sirens in the area by encircling and protecting their young.

Protecting  the young of a species appears to be a universal value in our world. With some notable exceptions.

Rockets found in Gaza school

Cowardly Hamas has been caught storing rockets in a school in Gaza.

Statement from UNRWA

Agency Demands Full Respect for the Sanctity of Its Premises in Gaza

Yesterday, in the course of the regular inspection of its premises, UNRWA discovered approximately 20 rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip. UNRWA strongly condemns the group or groups responsible for placing the weapons in one of its installations. This is a flagrant violation of the inviolability of its premises under international law. This incident, which is the first of its kind in Gaza, endangered civilians including staff and put at risk UNRWA’s vital mission to assist and protect Palestine refugees in Gaza.

Immediately after discovery, the Agency informed the relevant parties and successfully took all necessary measures for the removal of the objects in order to preserve the safety and security of the school. UNRWA has launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

UNRWA has strong, established procedures to maintain the neutrality of all its premises, including a strict no-weapons policy and routine inspections of its installations, to ensure they are only used for humanitarian purposes. UNRWA will uphold and further reinforce its procedures.
Palestinian civilians in Gaza rely on UNRWA to provide humanitarian assistance and shelter. At all times, and especially during escalations of violence, the sanctity and integrity of UN installations must be respected.

Except....

The UNRWA statement  "This incident, which is the first of its kind in Gaza...." isn't entirely true

We haven't forgotten this.

JVP: No empathy for Israel

This is the latest solicitation I ‘ve received from the self-proclaimed wedge group, Jewish Voice for Peace.

Not a word- not a single word about the thousands of rockets launched from Gaza. Not a single word about the millions of Israeli civilians spending their nights in bomb shelters.  Not a single word condemning Hamas for its indiscriminate shelling of civilians. Not a single word of compassion for the Israeli Jews, Christians and Muslims living under constant threat of Hamas’s long range rockets targeting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Not a single word of empathy for the families of our boys murdered by Hamas.

Its as though 8 million Israelis simply don’t matter to JVP.  Perhaps because 8 million Israelis don’t actually matter to JVP.

JVP propaganda follows:

My name is Eran Efrati, I am Jewish, a veteran of the Israeli Defense Forces, and a 7th generation Jerusalemite.

What I've seen in Israel over the last few weeks is beyond anything I have witnessed in my life.

I've seen terrified Palestinian children in Hebron and Halhul, sitting on the ruins of their homes.

I've seen mobs in the street chanting "death to Arabs" and pulling out Palestinian men from their stores to beat them as other Israelis stood idly by. I've seen soldiers lined up at the Gaza border, ready at a moment's notice to invade.

And now, like you, I’ve seen the climbing death toll in Gaza, over 100 dead and some 500 injured –all by Israeli missiles, with no end in sight.

As much as it pains me to say it, I don’t think I can do a lot about it. But I believe you can.

American voices - and especially Jewish American ones - are probably the most critical voices in the world right now.

We need you to tell us - Israeli politicians, the Israeli media, Israeli society - that you can't support this. That you can't support human rights violations. That you can't support racism. That you won't support the idea that Jewish lives matter more than Palestinian lives.

Join me and sign this Open Letter now—if they get another 10,000 signatures, Jewish Voice for Peace will take out ads in Haaretz and the Jewish Forward with our message.

We know the roots of this are long and deep. But the truth behind this latest assault has finally coming: as J.J. Goldberg wrote in The Forward, the Israeli government lied, and created this situation.

For weeks, the government knew that the three kidnapped teenagers were dead. But they instituted a gag order on the media, lied to Israelis and the world, and falsely claimed the mass arrests and collective punishment of Palestinians was all in the hopes of finding the teenagers alive.

In other words, their chosen response was to kidnap the mind of an entire country.

From the very beginning, this has been about punishing Palestinians. From the beginning, the government has been willing to manipulate and use its own people for that goal.

Overhead, I hear airplanes headed to Gaza all day long, and I know there's nothing I can do to stop them. And now we all know the lengths they've gone to justify this attack, and how fully Israeli society has bought into it. And I don't think we can stop it from within.

But I think you can.

Please join me and sign this statement: We oppose the occupation, the bloodshed, the privileging of Jewish lives over others lives.

Palestinian UN Rep:Every Missile Fired from Gaza at Israel Is "Crime Against Humanity"

From MEMRI

The following are excerpts from a Palestinian Authority TV interview with Palestinian Representative at the U.N. Human Rights Council Ibrahim Khreisheh. The interview aired on July 9, 2014 on Palestinian Authority TV.

nterviewer: The popular demand is to appeal to the International Criminal Court and to sign the Rome Statue. The demand is to do this immediately. To what extent is this realistic? You are our representative in all the international organizations. What can we gain from such a step, and could we ourselves be indicted?

Ibrahim Khreisheh: I am not a candidate in any Palestinian elections, so I don’t need to win popularity among the Palestinians. The missiles that are now being launched against Israel – each and every missiles constitutes a crime against humanity whether it hits or misses, because it is directed at a civilian targets. What Israel does against Palestinian civilians also constitutes crimes against humanity. With regard to crimes of war under the Fourth Geneva Convention – the settlements, the Judaization, the checkpoints, the arrests, and so on – we find ourselves on very solid ground. However, there is a Palestinian weakness with regard to the other issue. Therefore targeting civilians – be it one civilian or a thousand – is considered a crime against humanity.

Interviewer: This why Israel resorted to an attack against Gaza…

Ibrahim Khreisheh: Appealing to the ICC requires a consensus in writing, by all Palestinian factions, so when a Palestinian is arrested for his involvement in the killing of an Israeli citizen we will not be blamed for extraditing him. Please note that many of our people in Gaza appeared on TV and said that the Israeli army warned them to evacuate their homes before the bombardment. In such a case, if someone is killed, the law considers it a mistake rather than an intentional killing, because [the Israelis] followed the legal procedures. As for the missiles launched from our side… We never warn anyone about where these missiles are about to fall, or about the operations we carry out. Therefore, people should know more before they talk emotionally about appealing to the ICC.

Pro-Israel rally attacked in Los Angeles

Rockets continue to rain down on Israel, averaging one every 10 minutes. Hamas has long range Iranian rockets now, and 75% of the population of Israel is within their range. Just last night, Israel shot down an armed Iranian-made drone, launched from Gaza. No Virginia, this isn’t about "Palestinians throwing stones". It never was.

Yesterday, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, thousands gathered in Westwood, Los Angeles to attend a solidarity rally with Israel.

Most estimate the crowd at 2,000, but some reports are as high as 5,000. Speakers included Rabbi Marvin Hier, of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Roz Rothstein co-founder and CEO of StandWithUs, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer and actress Noa Tishby. Participants stood on 3 corners at the intersection of Wilshire and Veteran Boulevards. Passing cars honked to show their support.

What happened next is in dispute, and is under investigation

From the LA Jewish Journal

A peaceful pro-Israel rally in front of the Federal Building in Westwood in West Los Angeles was interrupted late Sunday afternoon when three or four men wielding Palestinian flags arrived carrying long wooden sticks and alledgely attacked the pro-Israel demonstrators. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that more than 1,200 attended the rally.

Witnesses said several of the pro-Israel participants were hit by the sticks, but police would not immediately confirm or comment on whether anyone was wounded. A separate counter protest of about 200 supporting the Palestinians was held across the street.

When police who were already on the scene stepped in to break up the scuffle, the attackers returned to their pickup truck and drove off. As they left, witnesses say, a gun was fired in the direction of the truck by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was at the scene, according to Brian Thomas of the LAPD West Los Angeles Patrol Division.

UPDATE 7:00 a.m. (7/14): The four men were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to NBC4. LA County Sheriffs Department said the weapons were wooden flag poles that the men were holding as they drove through the crowd. Additionally, the shot was allegedly fired not by a DHS officer, as the LAPD initially told the Journal, but by a Federal Protective Service (FPS) officer.

More information wil be posted as it becomes available.

UPDATE

The four suspects arrested have been identified as 19-year-old Mostadafa Gamaleldin Hafez, 41-year-old Haddah Mustapha Kreidieh, 35-year-old Mohammed Said Elkhatib, and 38-year-old Fadi Ali Obeidallah.

The four men were booked for assault with a deadly weapon and released on $30,000 bond from the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station Monday morning. The Federal Protective Service officer was  placed on leave after discharging his weapon during the altercation.

PFLP terror group raises their flag in San Francisco

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine is a terrorist group.

According to the Jewish Virtual Library, they are responsible for:
  • The hijacking of an El Al plane (July 23, 1968); 16 prisoners were released.
  • Hijacking of 3 planes belonging to Western countries (September 6, 1970): Three commercial airliners were hijacked and blown up after the passengers were evacuated. An attempt to hijack an Israeli (ElAl) airliner was foiled. Three days later another Western plane was hijacked as well.
  • The assassination of Rehavam Ze'evi (October 17, 2001).
  • A suicide bombing attack at the West Bank village of Karnei Shomrom (February 16, 2002); 3 Israeli civilians murdered, 25 wounded.
  • A suicide bombing attack at a bus station at the Geha junction in Tel Aviv (December 25, 2003); 3 Israelis murdered.
Yesterday,  in our beautiful city by the bay, a PFLP flag was raised at an anti-Israel rally.  Not one of the rally endorsers have condemned or distanced themselves from this blatant gesture of support for terror.

Dumisani Washington: standing with Israel

Dumisani Washington, founder of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel has found a very appropriate way to show his congregation just what Israel has been going through.

Rev. Washington and his church congregation staged a mock evacuation of their building as the 'Red Alert: Israel app let them know that Israel was being attacked.

Thanks to Israellycool for letting us know.  And thanks, Rev. Washington for this creative way to give your flock a  glimpse at just what Israel is going through.

San Francisco Stands With Israel

A beautiful multi-generational crowd gathered in San Francisco's Justin Herman Plaza today for a noon solidarity with Israel rally. While the Israel supporters sang songs of Peace, young jihadis in the plaza chanted for endless war and for Intifada

And because its San Francisco, only a thin blue line separated the frothing at the mouth jihadis from the pro-Israel pro-peace side.

Thats probably just as well. The level of intelligent discourse from the pro-hate side was rather lacking.

While the pro-Israel pro-Peace side sang songs of prayer, songs of solidarity and songs of hope, well, the thugs on the other side prepared for an assault on the group that never quite happened, thanks to the fine work of the San Francisco Police Department

Israel activist Chloe Valdary assaulted in Boston

This is the face of  hate

A Palestinian "peace " activist has physically assaulted  Israel activist Chloe Valdary at a Boston solidarity rally for Israel.  Shrieking that the Jews would go to hell while the Christians and the Muslims took over Jerusalem, she knocked Chloe's phone out of her hand.

The unidentified woman was not arrested..

For those of you attending Israel solidarity rallies this weekend, be careful out there. Its never been about peace for the anti-Israel crowd.  In the unforgettable words of International ANSWER organizer Dick Becker, this isn't about peace. Its about the "victory of the resistance"

Hamas targets Israel's Nuclear Reactor

Yesterday Hamas launched three long-range M75 rockets targeting Israel's nuclear reactor in the city Dimona. Iron Dome was successful in intercepting one of the  rockets. The other two landed in open areas.

Hamas's terrorist attack against the Dimona  reactor is considered nuclear terrorism by the UN's 2005 International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism. This unconscionably evil act puts Christians, Muslims and Jews at risk, and threatens the entire region.

From JTA:

Meanwhile, Hamas in videos broadcast on Al Aksa TV threatened to again commit suicide bombings in Israeli cities. It also called on Israel to "count its coffins."

"Zionists, wait and see terror attacks, stabbing everywhere. Wait for suicide attacks on every bus, café and street. Wait for the rage and for revenge for Gaza, wait for the flames of the West Bank, inside you," the videos said.

The videos also warned that Hamas rockets have the "ability to reach places you thought were safe" and that "they will reach you soon."

From Berkeley: A blessing on seeing Iron Dome

From Berkeley's beloved Rabbi Menachem Creditor of Congregation Netivot Shalom, now visiting  Israel

"I just witnessed an Iron Dome intercept of a bomb from Gaza above me and the AIPAC Rabbinic Mission to Israel as we exited the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem. Baruch....she'asah li nisim bamakom hazeh. Blessed are you, Adonai, for made a miracle for me in this place."

"I am shaken and I am more resolved than before. This must end, and the accusations against Israel are heinous misrepresentations of a nation-wide reality of bombs that, as of today are being sent by Fatah AND Hamas against the civilian population of Israel.

Please share this widely. I bear testimony to the need for strength and for action. Peace is a long while away, and now is the time for unity in the face of threats to our very existence."

Quick things you can do to help Israel

From Dr. Mike, at San Francisco Voice for Israel

Dear Friend of Israel:
As Israelis cope with yet another day of Hamas rocket fire, there are some quick actions you can take RIGHT NOW to help support them.

1. Local impact: for the past several days, the San Francisco Chronicle has chosen to illustrate its stories about the conflict with photos showing only suffering in Gaza. Yesterday, it was a picture of Palestinian girl crying. Today, house rubble.   In their editorial decisions, Israeli citizens do not exist, nor do Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives launching rockets. 6.5 million Israelis are now in rocket range.
Please send the Chronicle a note (200 word limit) via their web page http://www.sfgate.com/submissions/. Be polite, but point out the power of images to shape opinion, and that Hamas itself is responsible for putting the lives of Palestinians at risk by its decision to escalate rocket fire against Israeli civilians. Suggest that using photos of Israeli children in shelters, or of Hamas terror operatives launching rockets, would be very appropriate!

2. National impact:
---Contact the White House comment line at 202-456-1111 and online at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/submit-questions-and-comments.
---Contact Senator Barbara Boxer at http://www.boxer.senate.gov/en/contact/policycomments.cfm and 202-224-3553.
---Contact Senator Dianne Feinstein at https://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/e-mail-me and 202-224-3841.
---Contact your local member of Congress (if you don't know who that is, go to http://www.house.gov and enter your zip code at "Find My Representative".)
Point out that no country should tolerate even one rocket aimed at its citizens, yet Hamas is raining dozens of rockets a day and most of Israel's population is now within their range.
Israel's civil defense system and Iron Dome are designed to protect Israelis, and Israel will do all in its power to spare innocent Palestinian civilians.  But once again we can expect Hamas to endanger its people by using them as human shields.  It already happened on July 8th.  We can also expect to see Hamas pumping out horrifying pictures and other propaganda to demonize Israel. It’s already happened, but this time the BBC reported that the pictures Hamas claimed were from Operation Protective Edge were actually from 2009 or from atrocities in Iraq and Syria.
We want the US government to stand behind Israel as it seeks to eliminate this threat to its population. Israel's response is entirely proportionate and justified under international law.

3. Economic impact: Go to the store TODAY and buy something from Israel-- a bottle of wine, a Sodastream refill, or a few boxes of couscous or frozen spices at Trader Joe's.

4. Social media impact: Post the attached graphic, courtesy of our friends at ADL, to your Facebook page and Twitter account. If you don't see the attachment go to http://t.co/KQgQIlhvlW
Thanks for standing with our brothers and sisters in Israel at this critical moment.

Join San Francisco Voice for Israel this weekend

Frustrated? Understandable. We all are.  Want  to help? Start here.
From our friends at San francisco Voice for Israel:

ACTION ALERT: Please forward widely
Stand up for Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State within secure borders and free from attacks.
Where: Downtown San Francisco, Justin Herman Plaza
When: Saturday July, 12 noon to 1:00

More than 400 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza in the past 72 hours. Rockets have been launched at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, putting millions of Israeli citizens at risk. Each of the rockets fired from Gaza jeopardizes Palestinian civilians, who are cynically used as human shields by their own leadership. Despite the barrage of rockets from Gaza, Israel continues to coordinate truckloads of humanitarian aid to Gaza

Now, in yet another of their morally bankrupt demonstrations, extremist anti-Israel groups are rallying to demand an end to Israeli right to safeguard its citizens.

Please add your voice to those gathering in solidarity with our friends and family in Israel. Our messages will be that Israel has the right to defend its citizens, that Hamas rocket fire must stop, and that the enemies of peace are those who promote ongoing war in pursuit of a "river to the sea" Arab state.

We will NOT allow any signs calling for violence against Arabs or Muslims in general; just because the other side will engage in vicious hate speech does not mean that we will lower ourselves to their level. Anyone bringing such signs will be identified to the San Francisco Police as a provocateur from the other side and removed. A selection of very useful signs can be found at http://www.standwithus.com/signs/.

Please note that these rallies often attract hard-core anti-Semites who have been known to engage in violence. We advise that those leaving the scene should not walk alone and should not engage verbally with any of the anti-Israel crowd. We also expect those on our side to follow any instructions from the San Francisco Police that might be issued for our safety.

Please come to help counter the lies of these anti-Israel groups, none of whom even accept Israel's right to exist, let alone defend itself!

Please join us if you can and spread the message to your friends and mailing lists.

IDF strikes a weapons warehouse in Gaza

The IDF strikes a weapons warehouse in Gaza with a direct hit- notice the huge secondary explosions. Notice as well, how  the terror group Hamas locates its facilities in the middle of residential areas, in an attempt to use innocent civilians as human shields

As the situation in Israel continues to escalate, Hamas proves themselves, once again, completely cavalier regarding the safety of the Palestinian  people. They've been distributing flyers asking people to act as human shields
And people have apparently responded to the call

Solidarity rally for Israel in San Francisco

From our friends at San Francisco Voice for Israel

Photos from the streets of San Francisco, and a solidarity with Israel rally held today, July 7in front of the Israeli Consulate

And yes, the haters of light were gathered in force.  Their rally, sponsored by AROC: Arab Resource & Organizing Center, ANSWER, Coalition For Palestinian Rights (San Francisco), East Bay ACC, Bay Area PAC, MECA, United Holy LandFund (SF), USPCN, Palestinian youth movement (PYM), the International Jewish Antizionist Network (IJAN), Freedom Archives. International Solidarity Movement ISM and Free Palestine Movement featured  frenzied chants of "We support the Intifada",  "Allahu Akbar" and the classic  "Ba ruh, ba dam, nafdeek ya Falastin"

Keeping it classy on the pro-hate side

Bay Area Anti-Israel rallies (and a bright ray of hope)

Once again, we see disgusting hyperbole and invective in the promotion of an anti-Israel rally scheduled for Sacramento, on Monday July 7.

Its no better in San Francisco, where jihadists  proudly proclaim their desire for the destruction of the world's only Jewish state by promoting their demonstration "From the River to the Sea", to be held in front of the "Isra-hell" consulate.

But there is a ray of hope, as Zionist organizations fight back.  From San Francisco Voice for Israel:

To all friends of Israel and the Jewish people:

YOUR PRESENCE IS NEEDED AGAINST THOSE PROMOTING HATE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST US.

Monday afternoon July 7, 5-6 PM.
Israeli Consulate building, 456 Montgomery St, San Francisco

This has been a difficult week for Israel, starting with the discovery of the bodies of Eyal, Gilad and Naftali on Monday, escalation of Hamas rocket attacks from Gaza against Israeli towns and cities, and now with violence in the streets of Israel by Arab extremists. Those who celebrate those events-- and call for more violence-- will rally in front of the Israeli Consulate on Monday, to protest any effort by Israel to protect its own citizens.

StandWithUs/SF Voice for Israel will be countering this demonstration by International ANSWER and its extremist allies, all of whom define "Israeli occupation" as the very existence of the Jewish state. ANSWER rallies in the past have featured graphic anti-Semitic imagery as well as signs and chants calling for more rockets, more terror, and more Jewish blood.

Our messages will be that Israel has the right to defend its citizens, that Hamas rocket fire must stop, and that the enemies of peace are those who promote ongoing war in pursuit of a "river to the sea" Arab state.

Logistically, we will not be able to bring a quantity of signs and flags, so please bring your own.

Please note that ANSWER rallies attract hard-core anti-Semites who have been known to engage in violence. We advise that those leaving the scene should not walk alone and should not engage verbally with any of the anti-Israel crowd. We also expect those on our side to follow any instructions from the San Francisco Police that might be issued for our safety.

An open condemnation of the murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir

Today, an appalled  Jewish community woke up to the sad news that 6 Jewish extremists had been arrested  for the murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir..

From our friend at Elder of Ziyon, cross-posted by Jewish and Zionist bloggers throughout the world.

An open condemnation of the murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir

We unequivocally condemn the horrific murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir. It was unjustifiable under any circumstances. The killing was reprehensible and we hope that the criminals who did this sickening act are found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Israel is a country run by the rule of law. There are reports that Jews have been arrested for this crime. If a trial finds that Jews are indeed guilty of this unconscionable killing, our condemnation is redoubled. The idea that Jews could do such an act fills us with shame and horror.

The people who murdered Mohammed do not represent us in any way. It is not enough to dissociate ourselves from the dreadful act; we must also ensure that crimes like this are never repeated.

Just as the appalling murders of Naftali Fraenkel, Eyal Yifrach and Gilad Shaar do not in any way justify the hideous murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir, neither does Khdeir's murder justify the violence, terrorism, destruction and incitement we have seen over the past few days against Israelis and Jews.

We hope and pray that everyone, Arab and Jew, lives in peace and security in the region.

Signed,

Elder of Ziyon

The Truth optional World of the anti-Israel activist

One of the most consistent characteristics of the anti-Israel groups locally is how they ignore the endless provocation that leads up to the inevitable Israeli response.

On Tuesday, an unholy coalition from Al Awda, Jewish Voice for Peace, American Muslims for Palestine and allies are planning a protest  in front of the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles to demand that Israel stop defending her citizens.

Not a single one of these groups condemned the endless barrage of rockets falling on Israel over the last few months, but the moment Israel responds, they take to the streets.

Interestingly, this truth-optional group has chosen to illustrate their action alert with a photo they purport as being an attack on a Palestinian youth from 2013, writing

08-12-2013: The child’s uncle, Mofeed Sharabaty, said that more than twenty Jews of the Beit Hadassah illegal settlement in the center of Al Khalil attacked Zeidan Sharabaty, 13 as he was heading to a nearby store.

The attack is one of hundreds of assaults carried out by Jews against Palestinians, their lands and property, especially in Al Khalil city (Hebron), as these illegal settlers also live in the heart of the city in Palestinian homes and property illegally occupied and confiscated.
Ummm. No.

Even though multiple people commenting on the post have explained to the moderators that the photo is from 2009, and portrays a Jewish youth,  the language has not been changed, and photo remains and is used to promote the Tuesday protest.

Anti-Israel activists' commitment to "peace" is about on par with their commitment to truth and accuracy.

Welcome to Pallywood, Gaza edition

Welcome to Pallywood.

There have been 201 attacks from Gaza  since the formation of PLO-Hamas government on June 2, 2014. In response, Israel has taken out weapons warehouses, and underground rocket launchers, and other terror installations in the narrow coastal enclave.

And the Palestinians and their enablers have taken to social media to scream "Genocide!" and "War crimes!", and as proof of such atrocities, are showing photos from Syria, and from Egypt, along with aged photos of dubious origin

And they are wondering why they are being ignored.

Take this photo, retreated  1,773 times.  Its at least 3 years old

Or this one, re-mixed and re-marketed from a scene last year in Egypt.

This one is not from Gaza- it's from Syria.  That doesn't stop the haters from using it demonize Israel. Why should truth get in the way?

This one is a complete fabrication from a website speculating on what an Israeli strike on Iran might look like. It is computer generated imagery.

Why do Palestinian activists need to lie about what is happening in Gaza?   A picture is worth a thousand words and Israel's precision strikes on terror targets just don't make good photo-ops.
