Stop Hate at San Francisco State

San Francisco State has long been described as one of the most anti-Semitic universities in America.  The situation came to a rolling boil last year, leaving frustrated students to take out a lawsuit in Federal court, alleging that the University administration ignored abuses directed towards Jewish students on campus.

The text of the petition follows:

To SFSU and CSU leadership,

For too long, Jewish students have faced unacceptable intolerance and hate at San Francisco State University (SFSU).

From protesters shouting down the Mayor of Jerusalem in violation of the First Amendment, to Hillel being actively excluded from a "Know Your Rights" fair, to an official SFSU department Facebook page opposing the inclusion of Zionists on campus, the climate for Jewish students at SFSU is deeply problematic. Some are even afraid to openly wear Jewish symbols on campus.

The Jewish community had petitioned the SFSU Administration for years to demand action, and while some progress has been made, administrators continue to drag their feet on a number of key issues. You have yet to make any official statement about the Know Your Rights Fair and have failed to remove offensive content posted on the official Facebook page of the Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas (AMED) Studies Department.

The Jewish community deserves a safe learning environment, just like all other communities at SFSU. This includes the many Jewish students who believe in Israel's right to exist and see Israel as an important part of their identity.

As such, we call on you the leadership of SFSU and CSU to:

1. Make a clear statement condemning the exclusion of Hillel from the Know Your Rights Fair in February, 2017, as contrary to the values of the University.

2. Establish clear regulations stating that official SFSU department Facebook pages must adhere to university policy, and ensure that the Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas (AMED) Studies Department removes its offensive Facebook post.

3. Make a clear statement that any effort to exclude and/or marginalize Jewish students and organizations based on their support for Israel's existence will not be tolerated at SFSU.

The Nightmare is Over at San Francisco State University

The nightmare for Israeli students, Jewish students and pro-Israel students at San Francisco State University is finally coming to an end.  Mohammad G. Hammad,  President of the General Union of Palestinians students  (GUPS) at SFSU is no longer a student

Thank you to all of you.  Because of your calls to San Francisco State University and multiple inquiries from reporters yesterday, university administrators have stated that Mohammad Hammad is no longer enrolled at SFSU and is no longer living on campus.  

In addition, today we spoke with the SF Police Department Office of Special Investigation, and the sergeant informed us that Hammad is being investigated by the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the FBI. 

We remain concerned that the terrorist ideology espoused by Hammad is embraced by other members of the student organization he ran, GUPS, and we will continue to closely monitor the investigation and the GUPS group. 

Thank you again for everything you did to help ensure the safety of Jewish students at SFSU.

At least Hammad is self aware enough to realize that being investigated by the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the FBI is a rather "serious turn".

Of course, the real thanks are due to the team at AMCHA, who have tirelessly pursued this until its ultimate conclusion.

Incitement and Bigotry at SFSU. The story continues

Thanks are due to our representatives in Sacramento, including Assemblymember Marc Levine, Senator Marty Block, Assemblymember Das Williams, Senator Carol Liu, Assemblymember Jose Medina, Senator Lois Wolk, Assemblymember Richard Bloom, Assemblymember Steve Fox and Senator Mark Leno who have written  to San Francisco State University President Les Wong thanking him for denouncing the incitement and hate speech at an event sponsored by the General Union of Palestine Students earlier this month. 

In the letter addressed to Pres. Wong on Nov. 25, the legislators wrote:  "Celebrations of violence  towards an individual group or community lack legitimacy or standing in civilized society...These hateful demonstrations foster prejudice and bigotry. Such actions are the antithesis of an institution of higher learning, which is a wellspring of thoughtful and compassionate dialogue."

No apology appears to be forthcoming from the General union of Palestinian students at SFSU. Also silent are the folks at Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) who never seem to notice, much less denounce the antisemitism in their very own backyard.

One of our friends made this "worst of San Francisco" clip to document the vicious antisemitism and  violence from this weeks anti-Israel protests at the local Israel Consulate.  Footage came from a variety of local sources.



Its got it all.  From a  feeding frenzy of young jihadis screaming "Allah Akbar" while they tear apart a stolen Israeli flag  to gratuitous antisemitism and mayhem.  This  wasn't filmed in Pakistan, or in Somalia. This was filmed in San Francisco.

These rallies show,  if  case you had any doubt left, that these are not peace activists. Real peace activists  would not have been silent while rockets rained down on Israeli civilians. Real peace activists wouldn't steal flags from the hands of elderly people.   Real peace activists wouldn't  kick a 63 year old man in the groin.

Yitzhak Santis discusses the silence of the NGO's- non governmental organizations- in a new article in the J weekly today.  He writes:

"Silence is golden. So goes the proverb. But silence can be deadly when nongovernmental organizations claiming the mantles of human rights and peace fail to speak out when the lives of millions of Israelis are threatened by indiscriminate rocket fire. Each rocket from Gaza is a war crime, but only after Israel responded forcefully on Nov. 14 did these NGOs suddenly speak.
 
In the weeks prior to Operation Pillar of Defense, one such group, the Oakland-based Jewish Voice for Peace, lost its voice when Hamas and other terror groups were bombarding southern Israel. JVP was silent as 1 million Israelis were forced into shelters, as dozens were wounded, and children were traumatized.
Only after the Israel Defense Forces responded was JVP’s laryngitis cured. In record time, they created a section on their website called “Take Action for Gaza” complete with links to anti-Israel protests around the world (at the Nov. 16 San Francisco protest promoted on this list, “peace activists” chanted “Zionist scum, your time has come”) and a “Gaza protest toolkit.” The “toolkit” offers downloadable graphics with slogans like “Another Jew Against Attacks on Civilians. Stop the Bombs. Stop the Siege. Stop the Blank Check to the Israeli Military with U.S. Tax Dollars.”

But JVP offers no slogans protesting Hamas war crimes against Israeli civilians.
In a further display of cynically exploiting moral values, JVP’s official press release explicitly blames the Gaza crisis on Israel. Not until the statement’s fourth sentence, without naming Hamas or any other terror group, does JVP “also urge the end of rocket attacks from Gaza into civilian communities in Israel.” Their statement also holds Israel responsible “for the well-being and safety of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.” But JVP fails to hold Hamas responsible for the safety of Israeli civilians. Nor does JVP’s statement demand that Hamas protect Gazans situated near weapons depots and launch sites deliberately placed by Hamas in populated areas."

He highlights the hypocrisy of groups like Jewish voice for Peace which continues to provide cover to anti-Semites and to aid and abet those that would have Israel destroyed.  Read the whole article here.

Kidnapped Israeli Soldier Gilad Shalit Named as an Honorary Citizen of the City of San Francisco

Supervisor Scott Wiener (District 8) will hold a ceremony at City Hall naming Gilad Shalit an Honorary Citizen of the City of San Francisco. San Francisco joins other world-renowned cities – including Paris, Rome, Miami and New Orleans - in awarding honorary citizenship to Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists in 2006 and been held in captivity ever since.

The ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:30am on the front steps of the City Hall (Polk St.), San Francisco

While his whereabouts have been unknown since he was kidnapped by terrorists who launched a cross-border raid from the Gaza Strip into Israel on June 25, 2006, Shalit is thought to be alive. He has been denied any access to the outside world – including to his family and humanitarian organizations seeking to verify his status and living conditions. Despite numerous efforts by Israel and the international community to secure his release from captivity, Gilad Shalit has remained held prisoner by Hamas for over five years.

Celebrating Israel Across America June 5, 2011

In New York City, a beautiful, multigenerational group of over 30,000 marched in a sea of blue and white, to celebrate Israel. Hundreds of thousands lined the parade route, to show their support for the only democracy in the Middle East, and America's only real ally in the region




3,000 miles away, a very different scene unfolded in San Francisco, at the annual "Israel in the Gardens" festival. Rare June rain and threatening skies keep the number of participants down. Those that attended were met at the entrance to the park by Jihadis calling for intifada ,appropriately enough kept in the gutter, by the local police.

As part of the so called "progressive" movement, the anti-Israel forces are surprisingly atavistic, resorting to misogynist and sexist taunts directed towards those who stand against them. The showdown at yesterday's Jewish Community celebration highlighted this perfectly.

To those who characterize the Israel supporters as "Old and ugly" may I remind you that while beauty is only skin deep, ugly goes down to the bone. We present to you, our local activists:

Bay Area activists are laughing about this recent mailing from Bay Area Women in Black, who have joined with "Jewish" Voice for Peace, Al Awda, the Middle east Childrens Alliance, the Arab Resource Organizing center and other anti-Israel groups in planning a disruption of a local Jewish community fair, scheduled for tomorrow.

"This is a reminder that, barring a heavy downpour, BAWiB will join with JVP-Bay Area and other peace-loving people tomorrow, to remind the celebrants at Israel in the Gardens that their party coincides with the end of the 1967 war and the beginning of escalated occupation of Palestine. "
