Every Friday, for years,  a group of anti-Israel activists have held court at the corner of Bancroft and Telegraph in Berkeley, calling themselves "Berkeley Women in Black"  Its a particularly vile group. They are countered each week by a pro-Israel, pro-Peace group

This month two of the regulars, Berkeley Professor Andrew Guiterrez and his wife, Marina are commemorating the anniversary of Operation Protective Edge in Gaza with...wait for it... photos from Syria.

Evidence was presented to Prof. Guiterrez that at least one of the photos in question predated the Gaza defensive by at least a year, and was in fact from Syria.

His response?

He called the police.

It takes a special kind of evil to knowingly spread falsehood. Its particularly egregious when the person in question is a University professor at one of the finest schools on the West coast.. For years, Berkeley Women in Black have been annoying students at the UC Berkeley campus. In the words of one student:
The only thing more Berkeley than having an inflammatory opinion is gathering together a cadre of similarly-minded people and staging an unimpressive display to annoy passers-by. Cue the Women in Black, a group of incensed nonagenarians standing together to protest the bloodthirsty, imperialist Israeli occupation of the land of Palestine. To paraphrase their flier, for nearly 20 years they’ve been blocking foot traffic, mouthing off, and toting decorative umbrellas each Friday in front of Sproul Plaza....It’s appropriate that these women have chosen to associate their cause with darkness, since it’s abundantly clear they’ll never see the light."

In which Carol Sanders gets what she deserves and whines anyway

In a June 17 letter to the editor of the J weekly Berkeley's Carol Sanders of Bay Area Women in Black and Jewish Voice for Peace complains about her treatment when she showed up to protest the day schools, summer camps, artists and falafel vendors of "Israel in the Gardens".

Was poor Carol expecting sympathy from the parents who had to push strollers through her protest to their watch children perform on stage? She didn't get any.

So why so much contempt for BAWIB & JVP? Organizations such as Women In Black and “Jewish” Voice for Peace, are fake peace groups that often stand next to groups that openly support terror against Israel. These groups have held mock public Jewish religious ceremonies (“taschlich”) condemning Israel, which is as offensive as an antebellum minstrel show to many of us.

Not that long ago, Carol and her friends in Women in Black sponsored Gilad Atzmon, a notorious anti-Semite, as a fundraiser for the International Solidarity Movement. And yet she still wonders why she gets no respect from the local Jewish community. Maybe respect needs to be earned, Carol, and you’ve just realized how far outside the tent of the community you’ve placed yourself.

Every Friday for years, Berkeley Women in Black has made a practice of harassing students at UC Berkeley. Students at the University call this phenomenon "Black Friday". According to one blogger,

Berkeley Women in Black have accused Israel and the Jewish people of controlling the media, government, and the banking industry for years. However on Friday Dec 4, Berkeley Women in Black (now including people of indeterminate gender) added a new accusation to the repertoire of dastardly Zionist deeds. Apparently the tag team of great Satan and little Satan is now "impeding evolution".
