Why Israel still needs checkpoints.

Two sisters from Gaza were arrested today after they were stopped at the Erez crossing between Israel and Gaza.  They were caught smuggling explosives for Hamas in medical supplies. One of the sisters was receiving medical treatment for cancer in Israel, and the explosives were found hidden inside tubes labelled "medical materials"

According to the Shin bet, Hamas was behind the attempt and the explosives were to be used to manufacture improvised explosive devices for attacks within Israel .

“This is a continuation of the attempts by terrorist organizations in Gaza, mainly Hamas, to abuse the humanitarian channel and the medical aid Israel provides to Gaza residents to carry out terrorist attacks in Israel,” the Shin Bet said.

Data gathered by the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) indicates that since the beginning of 2015 and mid-2016, more than 360,000 Palestinians entered Israel for humanitarian needs and approximately 1,000 Palestinian physicians received medical training in Israel or abroad. The Civil Administration says, "We see medical care as the highest priority and there is no compromise on the subject; we're doing whatever it takes to save a life.”

If only Hamas felt the same way.

Maisara Abu Hamdiyeh: A Life Sentence

Maisara Abu Hamdiyeh, a  member of the Hamas terror group has died of cancer in the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.  An autopsy revealed that a malignant tumor in his vocal chords had metastasized throughout his body.  He had been serving a life sentence in an  Israeli prison since  2002 on charges of attempted murder, membership in a banned organization and illegal possession of firearms as a result of his role in the attempted bombing of a restaurant Caffit in Jerusalem’s German Colony.

 A Prison Service spokesperson  said Abu Hamdeya died in a hospital in southern Israel on Tuesday. After doctors diagnosed his cancer as terminal,  an early release process was begun.

The American Muslims for Palestine today mourns the death of Palestinian political prisoner Maysara Abu Hamdiyeh, who died from cancer after Israeli prison authorities denied him access to medical treatment.

Media reports indicate Abu Hamdiyeh had throat cancer, which spread to his spinal cord.
Issa Qaraqe, the Palestinian Authority minister of prisons, said Abu Hamdiyeh's cancer spread because he did not receive treatment earlier, Maan News reported...

They mourn the death of a man who once targeted  families with children, eating in a popular restaurant. They offer condolences to the family of the man who targeted innocent civilians..  They whitewash his atrocities. They eliminate context. There is not a moment's thought of compassion for his intended victims, who were targeted as Jews, guilt only of living their lives in their ancient homeland.
