Cecilie Surasky and JVP: "We Was Muzzled"
Jewish Federations of North America represents 157 Jewish Federations & over 300 independent Jewish communities and is one of the top 10 charities on the continent.

Strengthening Jewish communities in Israel and around the world has always been a top priority for the North American Jewish Community" , along with helping to connect the North American Jewish community with Israel and World Jewry. The Fed also puts on the General Assembly - the premier annual North American Jewish conference, attracting lay leaders and professionals as well as the leadership of the Jewish Federation of North America's partner organizations and other important national Jewish organizations. The General assembly hit the news last year in an unexpected way- when a team of activists from Jewish Voice for Peace calling themselves "Young Jewish and Proud" repeatedly interrupted the proceedings.
The Federation has an annual contest to locate Jewish community heroes, in both the professional and volunteer sector. Its a good thing. But in a move that can only be described as "beyond chutzpah" (sorry Normie), JVP infiltrators Cecilie Surasky and Rebecca Vilkomerson had themselves nominated.
Why should an organization tolerate this? Why should an organization honor those that have tried to shut it down? In this case, the Fed said no, and removed the JVP'ers names from consideration. And Cecilie, a salaried employee of JVP commenced whining about this slight on her blog Muzzlewatch. No, there is no point in linking to it. Muzzlewatch "tracking efforts to stifle open debate about US-Israeli foreign policy" does not allow comments.
The local Jewish paper , the J Weekly had written about Cecilie's nomination earlier in the week. The comments are particularly interesting:

"Surasky’s nomination was clearly an attempt to subvert the rules of the Jewish Community Heroes contest, which state the criteria for the awards:
“The nominee shows exceptional qualities and commitment in line with the mission of The Jewish Federations of North America.” Clearly the mission of the Federations is not congruent with an organization that presents speakers such as Alice Walker and Ali Abunimah, that supports and endorses BDS activities, and that publicly stands with those who openly support Hamas and Hezbollah."
This incident is just one more lesson, demonstrating that the institutions of our community need to remain vigilant against attempts by anti-Israel extremists to subvert them. JVP will remain “outside the tent”, but if it wants to come inside, the password isn’t complicated. Just say “I accept the Jewish state.”

"Nowhere in her nominating statement is Cecilie’s affiliation with the notorious anti-Israel organization “JVP” even mentioned. Did she think that her paid position with this group would negatively impact people’s opinion of her activism? Judging by the comments, she was right. If Cecilie is uncomfortable mentioning her employer, maybe there’s a good reason. Any group that stands shoulder to shoulder with those chanting. ” Palestine is our land, and the Jews are our dogs” does not deserve a place at the table. "

"When Yom Kippur ends tomorrow, Jews all over the Bay hour and the world will utter the same words they have said for millenium “Next year in Jerusalem”, reinforcing the ties that bind us with our ancient homeland.
I cant help but wonder what Cecilie will be saying at that same moment."
The action of the Fed shows that Jewish community activists have begun to fight back against the delegitimization of our land and our people. This is also a good thing. And its happening at all levels.

Note To JVP's Cecilie Surasky: Time to take a refresher course in English
Those of us unfortunate enough to be on the email list of Cecilie Surasky, Deputy Director Jewish Voice for Peace received this whiny missive today. (My comments in bold)
I was stunned to see that our entire U.S. Congress gave Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu 29 standing ovations on Tuesday. Twenty-nine. Unbelievable, given what his speech contained.
Cecilie- how does it feel to be irrelevant? After 15 years of providing cover for anti-Semites, look how little impact you 've had. America still loves Israel and supports Israel, our only true ally in the Middle east.
The speech that Netanyahu gave that day will go down in history as an extraordinary embarrassment to Americans and Israelis alike. Read on to find out what he said and why we cannot let it go unanswered.
It will go down in history as the day America's elected representatives stood for peace, and stood with Israel. On both sides of the aisle.
To put it simply, Netanyahu proved yet again that he prefers settlement expansion and Jewish domination of Palestinians to any kind of true peace agreement that would benefit both peoples. He claimed that Israel isn’t occupying anyone—ignoring nearly 44 years of increasingly brutal Israeli control over the lives of millions of Palestinians.
No, Cecilie. He said: "Two years ago, I publicly committed to a solution of two states for two peoples -- a Palestinian state alongside a Jewish state. I'm willing to make painful compromises to achieve this historic peace. As the leader of Israel, it's my responsibility to lead my people to peace". He also said "The Palestinians share this small land with us. We seek a peace in which they'll be neither Israel's subjects nor its citizens. They should enjoy a national life of dignity as a free, viable and independent people living in their own state. They should enjoy a prosperous economy, where their creativity and initiative can flourish." He said " Israel will not be the last country to welcome a Palestinian state as a new member of the United Nations; it will be the first to do so." If you could put aside your hate for just a moment Cecilie, you would have heard it too.
He stated that Israel had no need for American military assistance—ignoring the $3 billion in military equipment and aid the U.S. provides Israel each year.
No, Cecilie, he said "You've been very generous in giving us tools to do the job of defending Israel on our own. Thank you all, and thank you, President Obama, for your steadfast commitment to Israel's security. I know economic times are tough. I deeply appreciate this."
He said Israel supports the desire of Arab peoples to live free—saying nothing about the ongoing Israeli shootings and arrests of Palestinians who nonviolently protest for their right to be free.
These non-violent protesters?
Is targeting a yellow school Israeli school bus "non-violent resistance"?
Is firing thousands of rockets at civilians in Israel "non-violent resistance"?
What makes this so outrageous is that Netanyahu’s speech found a shockingly sympathetic audience in the U.S. Congress while people like you and me could only watch in disbelief.
No, Cecilie. I've never been prouder to be an American, or to be a Zionist. Cecilie- Jewish Voice for Peace(JVP) has repeatedly aligned itself with some of the most viciously anti-Israel groups in the world. Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) has provided political, legal and physical cover for anti-Semitism. Jewish Voice for Peace represents hypocrisy, and nothing more. Netanyahu said " I stood before my people -- and I told you, it wasn't easy for me -- I stood before my people and I said, "I will accept a Palestinian state." Cecilie- will you, will Jewish Voice for Peace ever say , "I will accept a Jewish state." ?
Until the moment comes that you can, Cecilie, JVP will always be a fringe group of haters and extremists.

JVP: Free Speech for me but not for thee
Jewish Voice for Peace , an organization Jewish in name only has made a regular practice of disrupting the speech of those they disagree with, and encouraging others to do the same. They've coordinated the disruption of speakers they disagree with from coast to coast, and have proudly used the incidents for fundraising. ("Oh. Look at us. We are so brave and edgy so send us money, why don't you?") Jewish Voice for Peace was among those who sent a letter to Chancellor Michael Drake at the University of California at Irvine ("UCI"), condemning the recommended suspension of the University's Muslim Student Union who repeatedly interrupted Michael Orens' in February. They coordinated the disruption of PM Netanyahu at the New Orleans General Assembly, as well
JVP's Cecilie Surasky was unhappy with the Jewish community's response to an anti-Israel conference at a local law school. In a recent op ed in the San Francisco Chronicle, JVP's Cecilie Surasky expressed her concern that "serious debate...will be shut down", calling it a "threat not just to academic freedom but to American free speech. "
Cecilie seems much less concerned about protecting "American free speech" that she doesn't agree with. Perhaps she would prefer if we followed her lead, and just shouted down the speakers we don't agree with?
