IDF patrol attacked from Gaza

Guest post by Emunah

 From YNET:

An IDF force apparently came under mortar fire emanating from Gaza Thursday night while operating on both sides of the border fence as part of the efforts to uncover additional parts of an underground terror tunnel that was located in the area a month ago. The force returned fire.

Palestinian sources reported that an IDF tank opened fired at a terror cell belonging to Hamas' armed wing - the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, which was situated east of the city of Khan Younis in south Gaza.

The Palestinians further reported that during exchanges of fire between terrorists and IDF forces near the city of Abasan in south Gaza, a Palestinian terrorist was killed and another was wounded, apparently from IDF tank fire.  The Palestinians identified the terrorist who was killed as Rabiya Barakeh, 21.

UPDATE from Arutz Sheva

Five IDF soldiers were wounded near the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Thursday evening.

An initial investigation has found that terrorists detonated an explosive device as IDF soldiers were operating in the area, preparing to blow up the terror tunnel that was recently discovered by IDF soldiers, leading from Gaza into an Israeli kibbutz.

As the soldiers crossed the border fence, the device was detonated, wounding the five soldiers who were taken by helicopter to the Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva. The IDF responded by opening fire at terrorists who were in the ara.

The reaction in social media was swift.

Activists bragged about the ambush of the Israeli soldiers

Others were quick to claim Rabiya Barakeh was a "civilian", to keep alive the illusion of the Palestinians as helpless victims of brutal Israeli aggression.

Other photos of Rabiya Barakeh were soon posted. It was hard to perpetuate the lie of him as an innocent bystander, when he was photographed in military fatigues. Even Al Jeezerah identified him as a member of Hamas

And then there was "Pallywood". There always is.  This image of a 2012 air strike on a Sudanese weapons depot was posted as a photo of Gaza, and retweeted 53 times.

Just another night on the net.
