From the statement nominating Tammi:

Tammi Benjamin
Santa Cruz, California
How is your Hero working to make the world a better place?
Tammi has meticulously documented the growing problem of campus anti-Semitism and hostility facing Jewish students and others who stand in support of Israel. Her groundbreaking work has brought this situation to light and culminated in the Federal Government conducting a formal investigation into the violation Jewish students' civil rights at the University of California, Santa Cruz. More recently she, along UCLA Prof. Emeritus Leila Beckwith, launched the AMCHA Initiative. The AMCHA Initiative strives to bring together Jewish people from all over California so that they might speak in one voice in order to express their concern for the safety and well-being of Jewish college and university students. More than 5,000 have recently supported a major initiative of AMCHA to reach out to the Administration of the University of California on behalf of Jewish students. In these difficult times of rising anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism, Tammi's singular devotion and tireless work on behalf of the Jewish people and in particular our Jewish students deserves the highest recognition.
